Sunnyvale

Several friends from Great Exchange Covenant Church (aka GrX) realized in 2007 that their community service efforts were scattered through out Silicon Valley which prevented them from relationally growing deeper in any one community.  This reality paralleled the church’s Sunday services that rotated between three different hotels in Santa Clara.

Bt the end of 2007 the church found a Sunday home at King’s Academy High School in North Sunnyvale which prompted this group to get connected to the felt needs of Sunnyvale.  As various members visited Sunnyvale Challenge Team meetings and built relationships with North Sunnyvale schools, they found an opportunity to partner with the Columbia Neighborhood Center and Columbia Middle School to provide a weekly “club” for kids and youth whose moms were enrolled in ESL classes at Columbia Middle School.

Our movement and relationships in Sunnyvale have now grown beyond one church partnering with one school.  We are now involved in Mayor Spitaleri’s Literacy Task Force, mentoring youth at Adaire Community Day School, volunteering at the Kick, Lead, Dream Soccer Camp and collaborating with Generations Community Wellness and other local organizations to develop a Gateway Neighborhood Outreach through a 32,000 square foot facility made available to the community by Trinity Church in Sunnyvale.

Currently we have a need for morning reading volunteers at San Miguel Elementary.  For more information about RPM’s various opportunities in Sunnyvale, please contact Rob Schulze at our contact us page.
